Melle Wondergem studied Early Stringed Musical Instrument Making at West Dean College, United Kingdom under tutoring of Roger Rose.

Upon returning to the Netherlands he joined Harry Jansen’s workshop who is specialised in double basses. After three years being an employee Melle continued to collaborate with Harry as a self employed. They would continue this collaboration for another fifteen years before Melle left to start his own workshop in 2018.

His worksop is located in Amsterdam North where he remains up to the present day focusing on building, restoring and maintaining double basses as well as making c extensions.
